The buggy is an essential item in parents’ daily lives, often as important as the family car. The study shows that UK prams travel half as much as a family car.
A new study shows that the average UK parent logs 750 “buggy miles” every year.
A recent survey by the parenting website Channel Mum found that most parents strap their children into prams about eight times a week for 1.8-mile strolls. That’s nearly 14 miles a week, or 62 miles a month.
According to this study, mothers tend to take their children out for more walks, while fathers prefer to go for more extended strolls.
Siobhan Freegard, the founder of Channel Mum, said new parents could be intimidated when they are out and about with a buggy.
‘Your first time holding your baby and going out with him/her is like receiving your first driving license and going for your first drive.’
Pram walks offer many benefits – they are soothing to babies, are social, and keep them active. More than a third of parents said that taking their children for walks in prams helps them fall asleep.
More than 25 percent of parents admit using their prams to keep in shape and perform “buggy boot camp” exercises, while 15 percent admit using them as shopping carts.
Almost seven in ten parents admit to taking their child out in a pram despite being able to walk without it for the sake of convenience. Children tend to stop using the pram around the age of two and a half.
